When you buy yarn do you do anything special to it? Do you have a ball winder or anything like that? I recently purchased some yarn from a local shop and she wound it for me and I thought it was fascinating. I even purchased a ball winder from Amazon because I thought it would save me so much room. Just curious <3

I only ball yarn if it comes in an unusable hank, like Cascade 220 or Malabrigo. Usually if it’s already wound into a skein, I just keep it in the skin and try to find the center pull :). I do have a ball-winder and yarn swift, and they come in very handy when necessary!

Hi! I adore your necklace that says "Twinkie Chan" where ever did you get it? I'm looking for something similar!

Hi! Mine was a custom made by athinalabella but it looks like she is on maternity leave right now! Just poke around etsy searching for custom resin candy necklaces or something like that :)

Geezus, I love this girl. Love her book, love her designs. She’s my TOP inspiration for when it comes to knitwear design, since I wanna be a knitwear designer specializing in Harajuku-influenced designs.

Gosh you’re so sweet!! I can’t wait to see what you design!!! I have a knitting loom/machine but have been afraid to figure it out! ;) xo

Dear Twinkie Chan, I'm 13 years old and my mom won't let me buy any kawaii stuff!! Its so depressing. She doesn't understand "kawaii." She says its too "babyish" but uh that's the whole point!! I love kawaii, because it's so cute~ That's why I love your style Twinkie!! My question is how does your mom feel about your style?

Hmm, that is tough! I encourage people to dress how they like, but I don’t necessarily encourage people to rebel against their parents ;). When I was 13, I was super nerdy and just wanted to blend in and fade into the background. I didn’t care about clothes at all until college, where I wore the grossest clothes possible, haha :P. I am sure my mother has rolled her eyes at me MANY times throughout my life, but again, I didn’t really wear anything out of the ordinary until I left home. Maybe you could compromise with your mom and just wear like one super cute necklace or bracelet or hair piece, or have one or two super cute tshirts. You don’t have to go all out and freak your mom out at once. Maybe you can ease her into being ok with it :). Maybe let her know that you’d be showing less skin than other outfits that 13 year olds might wear out there! For me, I think it’s less about dressing like a baby…..but more like…. even as we grow older, I don’t see why bright colors are no longer acceptable. Everyone should be allowed to wear color and polka dots and ruffles and rainbows!

Hi Twinkie Chan! I'm 13 and I love your work! If I had a credit card, I would be buying all your goodies~Will you ever have a Twinkie Chan gift card giveaway? Thanks! PS: I know this was a long time ago, but I love those clips you made out of coin purses!

Hi! I keep meaning to design gift cards and put them in my Etsy shop. When I have time to do that, I’ll probably do a giveaway as well. Now that my blog is up and running again, there will be more fun stuff like that :)

Eeee, do you ever sell stuff on Shanalogic? Or are you some how affiliated? Something about you just reminds me so much of that website..

Hi! Yes, I do sell some of my items on Shanalogic right now, and I also used to model other items for Shana :)

How do you package your things to ship? I've recently opened my etsy and I need some packaging tips/ideas Thank you<3

I would think about your experience as a shopper. How do you like your packages to ship? What delights you when you open your package? I try to keep it simple because I don’t want to create a lot of waste. Tissue paper, my business card or a postcard, and a sticker on top. Sometimes, as a shopper, I get a discount code on a next order, or candy, or little trinkets. Really, it’s up to you!

Hi Twinkie Chan! I think I'm going to tackle crocheting a cow hat soon, and I was wondering if you had any tips for crocheting irregular shapes? Like the spots of a cow? It's my first time crocheting something that isn't symmetrical in shape, I think. So I was wondering if you had anything that could help me out? Thank you!!

Hm, there are a million ways to go about it, but I would start with a basic shape, like a square, circle, triangle, over, or whatever, and then crochet an irregular pattern around it in the round, to give the edges some wonkiness. Increasing and then decreasing in different patterns will give you fun curves and bumps. Make sure to increase your stitch count in this process so your pieces doesn’t start curling in. Good luck! xo

Hi! I finished almost all of the design, but I am just waiting for my web guy/ brother to have time to make it all work! I’m eager, too!
