Do you have any new projects or pieces coming out soon? Are you still planning on a second book? If so, when.? Can't hardly wait to see more of your new creations!

Yes! I usually always have something new brewing away, but I don’t like to talk about it until it’s ready. Sometimes exciting projects don’t end up coming to fruition (such is the nature of business!), so I’d rather not get everyone’s (and my) hopes up until I have something real to show you guys. I’m still thinking on a 2nd book. There are a few business-related things I need to figure out before making my next book-move :). Don’t worry. I’ll keep y’all posted when there’s news about that!

i looove your work so much and your general style, and am wondering if you've always been so confident and sort of loud, style-wise? i always wish i was bolder in my clothing choices and whatnot, any words of wisdom? do you get funny looks or are you used to it by now? <3

Hi! I guess I wasn’t always “loud.” I didn’t really care about my clothes growing up.  I have never really been cool or trendy and have always just sort of done my own thing and wore what I thought was comfy (I didn’t let go of big sweaters and stirrup pants for a LONG time and kids in jr high would make fun of me for not wearing jeans!).

You could always just try a pop of color, just one piece of clothing or one accessory that is different from your usual. I probably get funny looks, but I don’t really look at other people a lot so I don’t know :P. My BFF and I were just out of town for the weekend, and she said she felt like an alien walking around with me. When I was in India with my family a few months ago, old men would look at me and straight up laugh in my face! Oh well, if it made them laugh, even if they were laughing AT me, at least they laughed that day :P.

i have wanted one of your scarves for over 5 years and i honestly can't afford one. do you ever have any sales?

I usually have a big sale after any craft show that I vend at, which is soon! I’ll be in NYC for Bust Craftacular, and then anything that I have left over usually goes on sale (mostly the more spendy items like the scarves). This is also why I wrote a book, so that people could make them instead of buy them, too :) xo

I love crocheting and knitting. But I've noticed that a lot of people consider crochet to be the "uglier" yarn craft. The same people usually say knitting is better or make fun of crocheting. I don't get it, what's the hate? Why can't people like to do both? Don't amazing creations come from knitting AND crochet? *SIGH* I think they're fabulous. I mean look at all the stuff people make! Anyway, I just wanted to share that thought with you -- what do you think?

Hi there! I feel you! Here are my personal thoughts: knitting IS prettier for projects like sweaters and clothing. It is less dense than crocheting and has a much better drape. Crochet often produces a thick material that doesn’t wear as well on the body. Crochet projects also often take up more yarn than knitted projects, so your yarn expense would be greater. However, you can create certain shapes a lot more easily with crochet, where the knitted equivalent would just melt and be floppy or not even look like the right shape. So I think there are pros and cons to both!

Hello there....I'm working on the cupcakes from your book but no matter how uniform my stitches or what kind of yarn I use, I always seem to have big spaces on my frosting which I try to enclose by weaving thru at the end! Is there anything I can do to avoid the additional weaving them close at the end?

The pattern was created using Lionbrand Homespun, which is very fluffy and lofty, so I think, perhaps, there are fewer holes than if you used a regular yarn. I unfortunately don’t have an immediate solution for ya! The thought I had was to first crochet a row of sc before working your scallop row, so the scallops have more to grab onto, but I didn’t have time to put this theory to the test or see if it still looked cute. Maybe you could give it a go! :)

Do you recommend blocking the cupcakes before stitching together? If so, what technique do you use? Thank you.

I rarely block anything I crochet, because I work in a lot of acrylics, and synthetic fibers don’t block well at all. Sorry I’m not so helpful!

Hi ya! When using beads for the cupcakes for sprinkles do you glue or sew them on? Which is better? Thank you.

With a bead, I would try to sew it on if possible. I use pom poms and permanent, washable fabric glue that does not scratch the skin. Another thing I take into consideration is time/labor vs. pricing. Sewing takes more time. Good luck!

You watch Dance moms? Nice to know, I'm not the only one. Its my guilty pleasure, the kids are amazing dancers. However Abby is insane!! Some of the dances she has the kids do are inappropriate, such as the topless showgirls dance. So what are your thoughts on the show? None of it is most likely true, but its good drama! Entertaining!

Yeah I didn’t really watch it until I saw a marathon of season1 right before season 2 started. Since I work from home all day/all night, I end up watching a LOT of mindless TV. I think Maddy is amazing, and I like trying to see the evolution in the girls’ dancing. I just always wonder why the moms don’t leave already if they are so unhappy!! Hence, dramaz! I’m excited to see what Dance Moms Miami is like!

Where is your favorite place to buy your yarn? What about online?

I shop at Michael’s and Joann Fabrics (and now Beverly’s now that I discovered I live so close to one!) a lot to keep my costs down, but I also love shopping at my local yarn shop ImagiKnit for the fancier stuff. I only shop online after I’ve seen a yarn in person first. JimmyBeansWool.com.  PurlSoho.com. Kyarns.com. Those are a couple places I go back to frequently.

Hi Twinkie! Do you have a leftover yummy you cupcake clutch anywhere? I would buy it off your hands. There's one on amazon but is so expensive, my 8 year old daughter loves it. The other day we went to a website called punk and they had your purse on sale for 15 bucks!! A steal versus Amazon, the next day I was going to purchase it and they didn't have it on the website. My daughter was heartbroken. Do you have any more? Amazon has it priced for 72 dollars.

Hi, unfortunately, I dont really have one to sell. I didn’t receive samples of everything :P. The felting process is very labor-intensive for me, so if I made them, it would probably still be around $70.00. I may experiment with lining them with fabric vs. felting, but I need to set aside time for that experiment :).

I saw the cupcake ring box and I love it. LIZ is sooo LUCKY!! I Hope you are going to sell those bad boys, you know what else you could do? Make an EVEN BIGGER version of the ring box, add a handle and boom you have a cute cupcake purse. I can't seem to find a 3D cupcake purse online anywhere, all the crochet ones don't keep their shape and all fall down. How long did it take you to come up with the pattern?

Hi! I’m so glad you liked it! I am not sure if I want to sell them yet. I feel like it was a really special item that Nara imagined for Liz! It didn’t take too long to come up with the pattern, since I’ve done a lot of cupcake-themed projects already :). I think the hard part of turning it into a purse would be finding the right purse to put a cupcake cozy on. I didn’t construct a ring box from scratch. I bought a round ring box online and built the cupcake around it :) xo

Dear Twinkie Chan, have you ever thought of doing a macaroni scarf? Oh yeah have you ever thought of doing drink scarfs? You could do a SUNNY D scarf, a coke scarf, a Capri sun scarf. Orange juice carton scarf, all kinds!! Or do you stick to food specifically?

Hi! I did a mac n cheese cowl once but I’d have to figure out a way to make the mac more efficient to make!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/twinkiechan/3436695905/

I’ve done milk carton zipper pouches and tea cup scarves. I have a lot of sketches of all kinds of things, but it’s just a matter of having time to execute all of them and also keep up with custom orders! :) The next month or two, I want to dedicate to new designs, though, like gummy bears, and circus animal cookies! The thing that’s important for my work is that things are recognizable in crocheted 2D format, but not overly detailed. Too much detail can weigh the scarf down, make it look bad on the back side, or just make it too expensive to sell for a reasonable price. Thanks so much! :)

Twinks, tell me babe are you a good dancer? I always wondered this question, because you look like you might have a few moves up you sleeve. Who's the better dancer, BE HONEST!!! You, Harry or Manda?

Uh, I think this question is really funny. I’m a terrible dancer. I don’t like dancing. I’m the one standing in the corner. Unless I’ve had a few drinks. Then I’ll jump and snap my fingers like Courtney Cox in a Bruce Springstein video. Manda’s got moves! She will win the dance competition! Hairy refuses to dance except the robot.

Dear Twinkie Chan, what is your favorite food, and out of all the scarfs you have made what is your favorite? Also, do you own at least 1 of each scarf you have crocheted. AlsO I do not see you wearing your scarfs very often, if I made those I would be showing those suckers off 24 7!! You are thee most talented person, I have ever seen. I truly mean it. Wish u the best-Ellie

Hi Ellie! (1) My favorite food is tough, because I’m not a very picky eater and I’ll eat almost anything. My favorite food genre is baked goods, mostly brownies, but I also love potato chips!!! And sushi! AHH!! (2) Favorite scarf: I think the cupcake scarf is easiest to go with my outfits, but I really want to make myself a pizza scarf! (3) You’re right! I am in the habit of selling everything I make, and I rarely save time to make stuff for myself :( so no, I don’t have one of everything. I only have 2 cupcake scarves and a bacon/egg scarf for me!  Thank you so much for your questions  :) xoxoxo <3

Dear Twink, I am 13 years old. Everybody thinks I'm 11' because of how short and skinny I am. It's starting to drive me crazy. Did this happen to u when u were young? I love ur scarfs, I even got your book! I wish u the best. -Allie

Hi Alie! YES! I was tiny when I was 13! There was a moment when we had to weight ourselves in gym and all the guys thought it was funny that I hadn’t broken 100 lbs yet! hehe. Don’t worry, though. You may not appreciate it now, but you are gonna feel so blessed to have awesome genes when you are older and everyone thinks you are younger!!! Don’t grow up too fast. You have your whole life to be older! :) xoxox

I just wanted to tell you that you've been a huge inspiration to me. I never would have picked up crochet again a few years ago if I hadn't run into your stuff online. I think you're really talented and I've been on and off for years with running a handmade etsy business and I always come back to see what you're doing and what I can learn from you. Thanks for that!

Aw you are so welcome!! Thank you so much for the super sweet note! I am happy you reunited with crocheting. There’s so much stuff out there for us to make! xox
